Dakota Resource Council, North Dakota’s only home-grown, statewide, multi-issue grassroots organization, is looking for a full-time field organizer for our just transition campaigns. We are working to ensure the communities and workers most affected by the historic energy transition are not left behind and help build stronger, more resilient, and diversified economies that work for everyone. The organizer’s responsibilities include working with people to address issues with sound and successful organizing efforts, empowering people to speak for themselves. The organizers work with DRC members on issues related to impacts on people’s lives and livelihoods. In Addition to just transition, DRC members work on impacts from oil and gas development, agriculture and food, and with local chapters across the state. DRC formed in 1978 and is a founding member of the Western Organization of Resource Councils.

 

 

FULL-TIME FIELD ORGANIZER-JUST TRANSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Field Organizer is responsible for:

  1. Empowering individuals to speak for themselves by identifying and developing a diverse group of members who agree to serve as the organization’s public voice on a variety of issues.
  1. Formulating sound organizing strategies by analyzing the social and economic forces, power relationships, and political agendas that shape the local communities where they live and in North Dakota as a whole.
  1. Identifying, recruiting, and developing leaders and conducting one-on-ones on a regular basis.
  1. Working with people to define problems and issues, and helping them think through the strategies and tactics necessary to act with confidence and win.
  1. Recruiting members to strengthen and expand the membership base and making fundraising an integral part of their everyday organizing work.
  1. Enabling members to make good decisions by sharing information and raising questions, options and alternatives.
  1. Enabling members and leaders to hold good, productive meetings.
  1. Ensuring that members receive a consistently high standard of appropriate and effective training, development, and support.
  1. Striving to reflect on and improve skills on an ongoing basis and developing an annual self-development plan.
  1. Performing the administrative tasks necessary to accomplish their job.

FULL-TIME COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for:

  1. Managing DRC communications, including website, email marketing, social media, public relations, and member communications.
  2. Developing and maintaining media relations, maintaining media list and contacts.
  3. Drafting and sending news releases, handling media requests and connecting media with DRC member spokespeople, coordinating news conferences as needed.
  4. Developing DRC spokespeople with assistance of organizers, providing media preparation assistance to members for interviews, letters to the editor, talk radio and other situations, and assisting with media and spokesperson training workshops for members and the Board.
  5. Maintaining, updating and enhancing DRC’s website, Facebook, and other digital channels to engage wider audience.
  6. Working with organizers and members to create and lead content production for a variety of uses: videos, blog posts, statements, fact sheets, digital campaigns, direct mail.
  7. Putting together a regular update email (eventually with podcast/video) and producing the quarterly member newsletter.
  8. Working with organizers and the Executive Director to write and send email action alerts, information updates, and contribution appeals as needed.
  9. Handling communications technology for DRC, the annual meeting and other events and communications efforts.
  10. Supporting campaign-specific communications needs, including news releases, advertising, promotion, event planning and promotion, and member communication.
  11. Working with organizers and Executive Director to maintain rapid response communications plan.
  12. Performing the administrative tasks necessary to accomplish his or her job.

FULL-TIME OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Business Manager is responsible for:

1. Managing the office, including overseeing and purchasing supplies; administering
insurance policies and leases; maintaining well-organized office, files, and archives;
and providing information and reports.

2. Managing equipment, including purchase, maintain, troubleshoot and inventory
printers, computers, vehicles, and other equipment; manage software , audio-visual
equipment, furniture, phone system, internet system and other office infrastructure.

3. Managing, maintaining and improving the office including appearance and set up,
mail, supplies, inventory, computer system, software, filing system, office equipment
and other organization assets.

4. Administering personnel benefits, managing job opening listings, screening, and new
employee orientation to the office.

5. Tracking memberships, renewals, contributions and relationships; overseeing and
maintaining database, training and assistance on the database.

6. Handling or overseeing preparation and logistics of workshops, meetings and
trainings, and coordinating set up of Annual Meeting and fundraising events.

7. Working with the Communications Coordinator to oversee the Operating Plan
Calendar.

8. Serving on internal or external committees to improve the systems or functioning of
the organization.’

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or higher degree in non-profit management, office management, or related
    field, plus relevant experience managing an office or providing operational assistance
    to an organization.
  • Must be proficient in areas such as database management, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Should have experience in Human Resources and employee benefits
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal relations and strong ability to
    write and communicate verbally.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, highly efficient, and able to multi-task and meet
    deadlines.
  • High level of maturity.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as engage effectively with a group.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization, and the community
    organizing approach to social change
  • Comfortable with farmers, ranchers, rural people, and people from a diversity of
    backgrounds, races, and cultures.
