Prairie Trilogy Screening – Bismarck

November 20, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Prairie Trilogy is an important documentary series that chronicles how North Dakota workers and farmers organized together to take power back from corporate interests in the East. Presented as part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s “Sensational Sundays” series, the event is also co-sponsored by Dakota Resource Council, the North Dakota AFL-CIO, and Cinema 100: The Bismarck-Mandan Film Society. The films “Rebel Earth” and “Survivor” will be followed with a panel discussion, moderated by ND AFL-CIO President Waylon Hedegaard.

The entire Prairie Trilogy was produced and directed by John Hanson and Rob Nilsson. The films follow the life and movement building of Henry Martinson, who helped organize the Nonpartisan League in 1918. The date of the film screening coincides with the 35-year anniversary of Martinson’s death, on Nov. 20, 1981.

“Rebel Earth” is a 50-minute documentary about Martinson’s journey across North Dakota in search of old Socialist and NPL meeting places and his homestead plot near Crosby. “Survivor” reviews Martinson’s career and examines his vision of a better world for the common man.

The event is free and open to the public.
