Field Organizer Cecilia Montesdeoca started with us July 15. She’s working on oil and gas campaigns and BARC (Badland Area Resource Council). She comes to us as a Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development Fellow from Illinois State University. She is completing an 11-month professional practice with DRC as part of her master’s degree program. Cecilia is from Bloomington, Illinois and graduated from Illinois State with a degree in cultural anthropology and community health education.
Cecilia served one year of AmeriCorps with the Illinois Public Health Association at a county health department and another year as a Team Leader with AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) based in Denver, Colorado. With NCCC she led a team of young adults to complete multiple environmental stewardship projects across the southwest. She also has experience in community organizing from her time working as a project coordinator for a disaster recovery/community development non-profit in Peru and she interned with U.S. Senator Tom Harkin where she worked with the Senate Committee of Health Education, Labor and Pensions. She enjoys traveling, photography, hiking, reading, listening to podcasts and spending time outside, preferably near a river, lake or ocean.
