Liz Loos began working for Dakota Resource Council as an organizer for Standing Rock in November 2016. She moved from Louisiana to Bismarck in July 2013, with her husband, Frank, and son, Gus. She has a varied background, spending seven years in social work, then while organizing a local Rainforest Action Group, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA. Liz earned her master’s degree in Ornithology at Louisiana State University and a Ph.D in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology from University of Louisiana. She spent three years working as Research Director for Delta Waterfowl Foundation and as an adjunct professor at Louisiana Sate University.
She enjoys spending her free time with her four cats, three dogs, and family. She loves being outside, taking her dogs on walks, kayaking, paddleboarding, and hanging out by the river.
