U-Mary to recruit students to study Bakken impact on wildlife, environment
U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., has announced about $500,000 in funds from the National Science Foundation have been awarded to the University of Mary to recruit 12 students to study the impact of energy development in the Bakken on wildlife and the environment in western North Dakota.
The funds will provide financial scholarships to find and enroll 12 students in the wildlife conservation or environmental science track, through the school’s biology program.
Heitkamp also said North Dakota State University has been awarded $17,000 to enable scientists and researchers to study fetal and adult health and disease in both animals and humans. The funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.
